Tao Meditation Basics: Seated Qigong

Qigong (also spelled Ch’i Kung) is a mind-body exercise designed to revitalize health through breathing, movement, visualization, structural alignment and other natural methods. Qigong literally means energy (qi pronounced chee) work (gong) or, working with the energy of life.

This Seated Qigong class transforms stress into vitality, prevents disease and helps to find a balance and tranquility within mind, heart and body. Meditation has been proven to reduce anxiety, calm the mind, improve circulation, benefit functions of the body and much more.

About the classes:

At Healing Waters, Jacintha (Jaz) Roemer shares a variety of Taoist meditations that have been used for over 5,000 years, known as Medical Chi Kung:

What is Taoism?

Tao (pronounced "Dow") can be roughly translated into English as path, or the way. It must be experienced to be fully understood. It "refers to a power which envelops, surrounds and flows through all things, living and non-living. The Tao regulates natural processes and nourishes balance in the Universe. It embodies the harmony of opposites (i.e. there would be no love without hate, no light without dark, no male without female.)" Taoism is a way of living in synch with the cycles of nature and those similarly in our bodies.

Taoists believe that we are a microcosm for the universe. The body ties directly into the Chinese five elements. The five organs correlate with the five elements, the five directions, the five seasons. ("As above, so below.") Taoism posits that by understanding ourselves, we may gain knowledge of the universe.

Self-Massage for the Abdomen
(Chi Nei Tsang)

Learn how to do a daily detoxifying massage to move "stuck Chi" or energy in the abdomen. Jaz will teach you techniques to help relieve symptoms of constipation or digestive congestion. Chi Nei Tsang treats the whole body and can also help heal chronic muscular-skeletal pains.

In Eastern Medicine, it is believed that our emotions tend to manifest in our abdomen. It is in these organs that we process all of our functions from blood to water to food. So why wouldn’t our emotions be processed there too?

Chakra-Gland Meditation

Chakras are energy centers located throughout the body. Using a Body-Mind-Centering (BMC) inspired meditation, we can learn that there are actual glands of our endocrine system that relate to these energy centers.

Join Jaz as you learn a map of the endocrine system and experience a meditation that will awaken your awareness of these energy centers and their physical manifestations.
