Great Resource for Athletes

Yer has completed additional coursework in sports massage. She shares her experiences in the field.

Yer Vang at Healing Waters I had the pleasure of working with young athletes when I did my internship in 2011. I worked with Concordia's college athletes, ranging from football athletes to track and field athletes.

Sports Massage is not for everyone, it is mainly for athletes and it's great for athletic injuries. Since sports injuries are usually fresh, the therapist can see how an injury can affect the muscle or joint, posture, movement, pain and more.

Sports Massage is the specific application of massage techniques, hydrotherapy protocol, range of motion/flexibility protocol, strength-training principals and deep tissue work. Massage sessions are usually 30 to 60 minutes long. There is little to no lotion applied onto the skin.

Athletes tend to know their bodies well, so information presented to the therapist is clear. Athletes are concerned about getting back to the field of play as soon as possible.

Run in to Healing Waters I incorporate some strength training exercises and some stretching into my massages. I loosen all of the muscle groups in an area before I do any stretching because then the muscles are already like jello and are easier to stretch. After stretching I incorporate strengthening exercises to add mobility and flexibility to the muscle group.

Sports Massage is not for the general client but the techniques improve the functioning of an
athlete's muscles and well being.

I look forward to my weekly massage with Sarah. The facility is quiet, warm, and relaxing. I am in my early seventies and massage therapy has improved my flexibility and mobility. It also has relieved some of the soreness and stiffness in my arthritic hands and knees. I now enjoy my daily walk, playing the piano again and knitting my baby blankets. If I am stressed or tense or have an aching muscle Sarah knows just the right spot to massage to relieve the pain. Thank You Sarah and Healing Waters.

First of all when I walk into Healing Waters I feel better because I know what is coming. I cannot wait to get into the room for my massage. I have knots and pain, and when I walk out of the room I am so relaxed and feel so much better. I have had several therapists work on me and they are all very talented and skilled. Best massages I have ever had and won’t go anywhere else. Their healing hands heal my body.
